Airman: LGBT Troops Distinguished by Resilience
Speaking about Cannon Air Force Base’s recognition of the DoD’s celebration of homosexual/transgender “pride,” an Airman helped explain what sets LGBT Airmen apart from their heterosexual peers:
What does distinguish us from our peers is that LGBT service members have handled adversity that has made us strong and resilient — the kind of people you want by your side when the going gets tough.
Noting the impact of DADT repeal:
Our Air Force is becoming a greater and greater model of our country’s diversity and inclusion. The more people we allow to openly and proudly serve in our Air Force, the better our force becomes for everyone.
It’s an interesting question: Is the US military truly prepared to be “inclusive,” or “open to all”? The answer to that question has implications few have considered.
