US Army Hosts Community Religious Summer Camp
The 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, recently hosted a kids’ summer program from the local Jewish Educational Alliance:
The campers ranged in age from 10 to 14 years old. Kristina Martell, assistant camp director…said it means a lot being able to get the kids to see what goes on at their local military base…
The tour focused on leadership, so it was only right that the command team of the 603rd Aviation Support Battalion, Lt. Col. Daryl S. von Hagel and Command Sgt. Maj. Jason O. Johnson were there to talk to the campers.
The US military sometimes gets grief for hosting religious programs and outreach events — at least, when those events are Christian. Groups of atheists have even protested the annual Vacation Bible Schools held at military chapels around the world.
Thus, it is both notable and admirable that the Army would continue to interact with the local community — including the religious faithful in that community — despite the attacks.
Events like this often make positive impressions, both on the children and the community. Seems the kids liked the grenade launcher and .50-cal.
