Marine Gen Paxton Presented with Church Pennant

At an event celebrating 240 years of the US Navy Chaplain Corps, Navy Chief of Chaplains (RAdm) Margaret Kibben presented Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen John Paxton with a church pennant flown over the USS Essex:

Like shipboard nightly prayers, church pennants are a naval tradition likely unknown outside the maritime profession. As noted previously, under US law (4 USC 1) the Naval church pennant is the only flag or pennant which may be flown higher than the US flag.

For those just figuring it out: US Navy warships fly explicitly Christian (and Jewish) flags while at sea.  They do so above the National Ensign (US flag), in accordance with US law and maritime tradition, and have done so for centuries without issue.

Ever wonder how long it will be before Michael “Mikey” Weinstein claims that this “emboldens our Islamic enemies?”
