Chaplains Equipped for Ministry and More

Much like the recent comments from the Chief of Navy Chaplains, US Army Chaplain Col Dallas Speight recently spoke on the chaplain’s role, and made a point of emphasizing their ability to help in sexual assault:

Most people know that chaplains provide for the religious needs of Soldiers and their families, irrespective of religious or faith background.

But they also are available to assist Soldiers and families with a variety of secular problems as well.

For instance, if a Soldier has been the victim of a sexual assault or harassment, or has had suicidal thoughts, chaplains are one of the first persons that Soldiers can turn to for help.

Chaplains are trained in their faith traditions, to be sure, but they’re also highly trained in pastoral care and in dealing with crises, even if that means working with medical or mental specialists.

Need help?  As the chaplain points out, all you have to do is ask.
