Pentagon to Host Gay Pride Event
Tomorrow the Pentagon will host the US military’s first-ever “gay pride” celebration.
The event will include speakers who will address the “value of gay service.”
The official poster was “proudly” distributed to a homosexual advocacy site by Lt Col Todd Breasseale of Public Affairs.
The military apparently had to be very careful in its wording of the event, because the “T” in LGBT, transgenders, are still prohibited from active duty military service, though it seems transgender civilians will be part of the “pride.”
Retired Chaplain (COL) Ron Crews of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty condemned the celebration and noted the interesting timing of the original announcement, coming just a day after the Pentagon publicized the fact it would no longer permit its service symbols to be used on military themed Bibles.
Presumably, in a spirit of equality, next month the US military will host a month of celebrations of sexual attraction to the opposite gender — though it has never done so before:
The chaplain alliance also finds it ironic that “although DoD makes attempts to strengthen traditional families, it has never promoted a ‘heterosexual month’ to honor the contributions of heterosexual members who make up at least 97 percent of the military.
“By openly affirming bisexual and homosexual behavior, military leadership is coming into direct conflict with the morals and standards held almost universally by chaplains and service members of virtually every major faith group in the military,” Crews explained. “This blatant attempt to ‘celebrate’ a minority view of political correctness will not endear military families to the military.”
Likewise, the Secretary of Defense has never singled out the sexual activities of heterosexuals when he has thanked military members for their service, as Secretary Leon Panetta did with homosexuals who, despite breaking the law, he said served “professionally” during the bans on homosexuals serving in the military.
Military atheists and homosexual activists banded together in a phone campaign, making calls in support of the event to the Pentagon. From OutServe, the military homosexual advocacy group, who called those who oppose the celebration of same gender sexual relations “enemies:”
Our enemies are currently lighting up the DoD Switchboard with hate messages to pull the Pentagon’s Pride event. We need your help in thanking Secretary Panetta by calling 703-571-3343 and press 5 to leave a message for Defense Secretary Panetta. Tell him, THANK YOU, for standing up for all the troops by hosting the Pride reception next Tuesday.
Jason Torpy also rallied atheists to make the same phone call.
And Michael Weinstein thinks the Pentagon is overrun by conservative Christians…
