Mikey Weinstein’s Friends and Allies in Military High Places, Part 1

Despite his claims the US military is overrun by Christians trying to take over the world, Michael Weinstein seems to have more public allies in military leadership positions than he has public enemies.  In addition, Michael Weinstein seems to have some very well-placed friends in the US military, despite his claims he is a David fighting an institutional Goliath.

In just one example among several, Weinstein claims a “close personal…relationship” with one Air Force base’s commanding general.

In a recent spat in which he needed to bolster his credibility with the local Albuquerque community, Michael Weinstein claimed to have a

close personal and working relationship with the Commanding General at Kirtland AFB.

Presumably, he is referring to having a “close personal” relationship with BrigGen Garrett Harencak, commander of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center on the base.

Weinstein even gave a probable reason for his unique personal relationship with the General, saying his

daughter is a USAF civilian employee at Kirtland AFB, working in the same organization as the Commanding General.

If the father of every person who works “in the same organization” has a “close personal” relationship with the General, he must have a lot of friends.  It’s also worth noting that Weinstein once lodged a complaint over an emailed Bible study announcement distributed at Kirtland Air Force Base — a complaint that was resolved in his favor.

It remains a fascinating admission of a “close personal” relationship between a senior military officer and a political activist, particularly since Weinstein has apparently tried to use that relationship — in his vendetta against ChristianFighterPilot.com.

  • Of course Mikey has close personal relationships with high ranking Air Force officers — lots of them. Mikey was an Air Force officer for 10 years. He left the Air Force after 10 years to serve a consel in the Reagan White House, but many of his friends stayed in. Those who made a career of it and are still in are now generals, and Mikey is still friends with them, particularly those who were his classmates at the Air Force Academy. He also has close ties to Kirtland, and alway has. He was born there and the base is in his hometown. Mikey isn’t friends with this general because his daughter works at Kirtland; it was the general, who has become a family friend, who suggested that his daughter, who is engaged to an Air Force pilot and Academy grad (and also a Christian), apply for a job on the base during her senior year in college. The reason that Mikey became such good friends with the commanding general at Kirtland was because of his handling of the Bible study issue. Because of his leadership, MRFF has had no issues at Kirtland since that incident.

  • @Chris Rodda

his daughter, who is engaged to an Air Force pilot and Academy grad (and also a Christian)…

You left off the fact he has a cross tattooed on his chest, but that is as irrelevant as much of the rest of what you said.

You put an awful lot of effort into rebutting something you seem to think is a non-issue. Problem is, you actually made it worse.

The reason that Mikey became such good friends with the commanding general at Kirtland was because of his handling of the Bible study issue.

Your own statements seem to indicate the “job suggestion” occurred before the “Bible study issue” in April of last year. According to the Air Force, the “Bible study issue” was handled by the wing commander, not the General. And the General hadn’t even graduated high school when Weinstein left USAFA.

If you intended to “explain away” Weinstein’s self-proclaimed “close personal…relationship” with an Air Force base’s commanding General, you failed.

  • Huh? I didn’t say that Mikey knew this particular general from USAFA. I said that some of the officers he knows go back to when he was at USAFA. He has made other friends since then, a concept you might not be able to grasp. So, unless you’re accusing Mikey of the crime of being likable, I’m not really sure what the point of your little series here is.

Oh well, I’m getting bored with this and have to get back to working on my book now. Having a full-time job (and a life), I just never seem to be able to find enough time to write. I really wish I was able to spend as many hours every day writing as you are obviously able to.
