Military Kids Find Faith, Familiarity in AWANA

Many things change when military children move from one base to another every few years — but they can find one constant at nearly every military location:  AWANA.

AWANA — Approved Workmen are Not Ashamed (2 Tim 2:15) — is a non-denominational Christian youth program that has found a home in military chapels around the world.  From Wiesbaden, Germany:

The words Nathaniel Enriquez, 8, uses to describe why he enjoys the Awana religious education program are a testament to its popularity among children.

“You get to learn stuff like Bible verses and Bible stories,” Enriquez said, describing what he does at Awana meetings.

Note, he said, “get to.”

Enriquez, who has participated in the program since his preschool years, said the program is also a lot of fun.

These programs are available, of course, because the US military makes a significant effort to protect the religious liberties of its servicemembers (and their families) no matter where it may send them.
