DADT Repeal Makes Top Religion Stories of 2010
The repeal of the ban on homosexuals serving in the US military, most often referred to as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” appears to be the only military/religion story to make the “top 10” 2010 story lists of most websites that look at military/religious issues:
- The Christian Post lists DADT as #6.
- Religion Clause lists DADT at #7.
- Religion New Service lists DADT at #2.
- Religion Newswriters had no military/religious stories in the top 10, though Franklin Graham’s disinvitation from the Pentagon ranked at #17.
Though some may hype some events, “religion in the military” is largely a non-issue, and the year-end reports over these past few years seem to bear that out. Members of the military are generally free to practice their religion, whatever it may be, and religious discrimination is no more or less prevalent than any other discriminatory treatment in the military. This should be reassuring to members of the military, and those who hope to be, regardless of religious beliefs.
