MRFF Expresses Support for Ground Zero Mosque
In response to an inquiry, Michael Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation expressed his support for what has been dubbed the “Ground Zero Mosque” in New York City. Notably, he criticized those who oppose the mosque/community center because…their criticism offends “jihadists.” Interestingly, Weinstein did not reserve his invective purely for Christians:
This [opposition to the mosque] is the work of fundamentalist Christians and ultra-extreme, rightwing Jews.
Apparently, the man who believes Christians are planning to exterminate Jews believes “rightwing Jews” are now helping them. The cognitive dissonance continues below.
For those keeping track:
Weinstein Defends NY Mosque: “Weinstein is appalled at the bigotry and cowardice of those who would deny Muslims their First Amendment and “human rights” to open a community center and a mosque in New York City.”
Weinstein Defends USAFA Pagan circle: “The abhorrent placing of a…cross at the official worship site of the [USAFA] earth-centered religions is nothing short of a despicable, cold and calculated hate crime of the most serious magnitude.” (previous story)
Weinstein Defends Attacks Marine beach service: “Lt. Col. Kaifesh, and his entire culpable USMC/DoD chain of command, [have] magnificently advanc[ed] the cause of [al Qaeda’s] “U.S. as Crusaders” propaganda machine.” (previous story)
The intellectual inconsistency of Weinstein’s “religious freedom” mantra is difficult to comprehend, until you realize his statements are entirely consistent…it is the mantra of “religious freedom” that has nothing to do with his aims.
As a point of factual clarification, the planned mosque that is dubbed the “Ground Zero” mosque is apparently 2 blocks away from Ground Zero.
The main problem with the discussion is the difference between the right to do something and the suitability to do it. There are plenty of things I have the right to do, but choose not to for sake of being a responsible citizen.
