MC-12 Crash Claims 4 Lives in Afghanistan

An MC-12 Liberty crashed in Afghanistan on Saturday.  The four crew members killed were

Capt. Brandon L. Cyr, 28, of…the 906th Air Refueling Squadron, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Capt. Reid K. Nishizuka, 30, of…the 427th Reconnaissance Squadron, Beale Air Force Base, Calif.

Staff Sgt. Richard A. Dickson, 24, of…the 306th Intelligence Squadron, Beale Air Force Base, Calif.

Staff Sgt. Daniel N. Fannin, 30, of…the 552nd Operations Support Squadron, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.

Due to the way the Air Force has fielded the MC-12, the modified King Airs are not considered primary weapons systems.  Thus, they are crewed by personnel who are primarily trained in other aircraft, which explains the eclectic mix of backgrounds of the crew.

As with a recent F-16 crash, the initial ISAF response has been there was no enemy activity involved in the crash.
