An official DoD article notes the continuing tradition of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders taking part in USO tours:
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have partnered with the USO for the last 34 years…
Two cheerleaders…[are] currently on a USO overseas troop entertainment tour with Navy Adm. James A. Winnefeld, Jr., vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, [and] the high-stepping, high-kicking and high-energy ladies show no signs of slowing down.
There is a bit of wry humor to the timing of the tour, as the recent Air Force “health and welfare inspection” resulted in (at least) 8 USO photos of NFL cheerleaders being removed because they were “unprofessional” or “inappropriate/offensive.” (More than 40 references to cheerleaders were found during the inspection, though a few were allowed to remain.) Given the official news release, some might think the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff disagrees:
“These women are so professional…” Winnefeld said…“They are so poised that there was no question in my mind who I wanted to bring on tour with us again.”
