Commander in Chief Commended Bible Reading to Military Members

Anyone care to guess who said this?

As Commander-in-Chief, I take pleasure in commending the reading of the Bible to all who serve in the armed forces of the United States. Throughout the centuries, men of many faiths and diverse origins have found in the Sacred Book words of wisdom, counsel, and inspiration. It is a fountain of strength, and now, as always, an aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul.

An internet search will give it away, but it could make for an interesting exercise.  If you need a clue, he wasn’t a Republican, and he wasn’t a Founding Father.

Given the way certain people are demanding the military treat the Bible currently, it seems like this President of the United States would have been crucified had he made this statement today — especially since he wrote it in the front of New Testaments produced for, and distributed to, the US military.

That would just goad Michael Weinstein’s goat, wouldn’t it?

  • So, then, you’re saying that the opinion of any Commander-in-Chief about what service member should do is from that point on how things should be, right? Well, great! President Obama said gay people should be able to serve openly in the military. Therefore, you, can’t argue against it anymore. Should save you countless hours of blogging.

    So, then, you’re saying…

Actually, the only person who said that was you. You should probably read what people write, not what you think they wrote. Should save you countless hours of wasted commenting.

I must say I was surprised that it was [Redacted]. Knowing his religious history I would not put a lot faith (pun intended) in his sincerity. If the history of the US tells us anything politicians are not above using religious symbolism to engender support.
