DADT: Respect, Rapid Repeal, Preemptive Retention

The US military says “respect is at the heart” of the ongoing training in response to the repeal of DADT:

[Undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness Clifford Stanley] told the subcommittee that he views total force readiness as encompassing a mental, physical, emotional and spiritual state of preparedness and resilience.

“This policy change embodies that view of total force readiness. More simply put, it’s about respect,” Stanley said. “Respect is not a word I use lightly. It embraces the true meaning of honorable service. Respect is also a word that captures the indelible bond shared by all who serve, especially when serving in harm’s way.”

Despite prior complaints of a slow pace, the Pentagon reportedly says repeal could be complete “by the end of the summer.”

The Defense Department expects by midsummer to have completed enough “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal training that it can ask the president, defense secretary and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to certify the results and begin the congressionally mandated 60-day countdown to full repeal.

A homosexual US Navy Sailor, Petty Officer 2nd Class Derek Morado, was reportedly recommended for retention, despite the fact the ban on homosexual service is currently in force.

  • What will the bigots do once the sky fails to fall on their heads? What will be the next thing that will end the world as we know it?

  • @Donalbain

Or what will the ones that want special rights do once this is over? What will be the next non-issue turned into a huge issue? What will be the next thing to conquer?

  • Special rights? I would be interested to know what you think that phrase means..
