President Trump Reads FDR D-Day Prayer

O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee; Faith in our sons; Faith in each other; Faith in our united crusade.

Seventy-five years ago today, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt went on the radio and led the nation in prayer as Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy.

Yesterday, President Trump read portions of that prayer at the remembrance event in England:

Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Though it has happened several times since, the idea that the President of the United States would lead the nation in a prayer — much less one for our “religion” and “crusade” — “offends” some people today. Pity.
