Military Bases Commemorate National POW/MIA Recognition Day

Last Friday, 21 September 2018, was National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which led US military facilities around the nation and the world to erect displays like this one, at Beale Air Force Base:

An article from the Oregonian (repeated at the Stars and Stripes) quoted John McCain in noting the POWs’ spiritual source of strength — as represented by the Bible on the table [emphasis added]:

“I was finding that prayer helped,” he later said of his time in solitary confinement, his broken bones left untreated. “It wasn’t a question of asking for superhuman strength or for God to strike the North Vietnamese dead. It was asking for moral and physical courage, for guidance and wisdom to do the right thing.”

Like so many of his fellow POWs, he received that guidance and exhibited great courage, for all Americans.
