LGBT Agenda in the Armed Forces: The Transgender Policy, Part 1

by Sonny Hernandez

In October 2016, the Department of Defense officially published “An Implementation Handbook” to “Transgender Service in the US Military,” which pertains to transgender service members openly serving. The implementation handbook was expected, since the Air Force has already begun training service members that men can become women. How should Bible-believing service members feel about receiving training that will inculcate them about a transgender lifestyle that they believe is wrong (Romans 1:24-32)? Since the Bible provides explicit content (indicatives and imperatives) regarding immorality, it is plausible to say that many will feel discomposed.

Bible-believing service members must exercise their constitutional right to articulate their sincerely held beliefs that pertain to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movement, especially since many LGBT advocates are exuberant about coming out of the closet, while attempting to place Christians into one. LGBT proponents can be deceptive, as they will plead for dignity and respect, but will denigrate and revile anyone that calls their lifestyle sin, which is why many Bible-believing Christians will be decried as homophobic bigots.

This is why I have often said that LGBT proponents should never be dignified as heroic and inclusive, but deemed as hypocritical and intolerant. Nevertheless, Bible-believing service members must be bold, loving, and rely on the Bible as the standard to measure their conduct, especially when it pertains to current social issues that are antithetical to Scripture.

Biblical Stance

First, LGBT proponents cannot account for knowledge or moral absolutes, because they reject the God of the Bible who is the source of all knowledge (Proverbs 1:7), which is why they have lost their appeal to absolute knowledge. Therefore, in the LGBT worldview, nothing could be absolutely wrong, which explains why they believe it is acceptable to call their lifestyle good, while the Bible calls it reprobate.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7), as God is the necessary pre-condition for intelligibility, and the One only living and true God (Deuteronomy 6:4). The Sovereign Lord has revealed Himself to all of His creation, by indelibly engraving His law in the hearts of all (Romans 2:14-15) and by His perpetual beauty (Psalm 19:1-3), which leaves everyone without excuse for their sin (Romans 1: 19-20).

Second, LGBT advocates have fabricated tales that God made them homosexual, but this ungodly assertion is diabolical. It is found nowhere in Scripture, but only from the lips of those who impugn the attributes of God by saying that God makes mistakes, which would mean that God’s Word is wrong and every attribute ascribed to His Name is imperfect. God created everything out of nothing (Hebrews 11:3). He made Adam by forming him from the dust from the ground, and Eve from the rib of Adam, after His Own Image (Genesis 1:27) in knowledge, righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:24), and has endued them with a living soul. Therefore, “Let God be true, and every man a liar” (Romans 3:4).

Third, the LGBT agenda is a degenerate practice, regardless if a man or a woman aspires to be the opposite sex. Here is an example: if a man desires to be a woman, and subsequently decides to mutilate his flesh, or shave down his Adam’s apple, and lauds himself as a woman, he will never be a woman; he will always be a man because that is how God created him (Genesis 1:27).

Changing one’s sex will never be proven to be heroic; all it proves is insurrection against the One to whom they will one day stand before (Revelation 20:11-15). The LGBT movement is also an assault on the family, as God’s Word requires a man to leave his mother and father, and cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24), which was also reiterated by Christ (Matthew 19:5).

Moreover, LGBT advocates will attempt to twist God’s Word. They will teach that Christ does not teach against their lifestyle, and when they do, they are not embracing integrity, but rather ignorance (2 Peter 3:16). Jesus Christ is the second person of the Holy Trinity (three subsistences: Father, Son, Holy Spirit), who is very and eternal God, begotten, not made, who is of one substance and equal with His Father. In addition, Christ (Logos) was in the beginning, and was with God, and was God, who was in the beginning with God (John 1:1). Therefore, when God’s ineffable justice was trampling Sodom and Gomorrah with burning sulfur, Christ was present and not absent.

LGBT advocates will also pervert the word love. The biblical definition of love is about obedience to the commandments of Christ (2 John 6), as love rejoices not in iniquity but in the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6). Most importantly, true love is about sacrifice, as Christ died for the ungodly (Romans 5:6), to make them new creatures in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Calling evil good (Isaiah 5:20-21) as LGBT advocates strongly suggest, is not love, but lewdness.

Furthermore, God is vehemently against the LGBT agenda (Genesis 18:20-21; 19:1-11). The LGBT movement is an abomination (Leviticus 20:13), and an anathema (1 Corinthians 16:22) that is strictly forbidden from heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). In addition, Romans 1 teaches that the LGBT agenda is unclean, dishonoring (vs. 24), vile, against nature (vs. 26), erroneous (vs. 27), and reprobate (vs. 28). The Bible not only condemns the profaneness of the LGBT agenda, but also those who approve of those who practice such things (Romans 1:32).

In Closing

The only cure for the LGBT movement or any manifold sin that transgresses the Law of God, is through the blood of Jesus Christ, who procured redemption (Hebrews 9:12).

God sent His Son (Jesus), the radiance of His glory, as a substitute for sinners, to be tormented and scorned by His persecutors. Christ had flesh torn from His bloodied body and was marred beyond human semblance. He was stapled to a tree and suffered the cursed death of the cross, and was forsaken and crushed by His Father (Isaiah 53), so all who come to Him by faith, will be justified by faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-10), as Christ will impute His righteousness to those He justifies (2 Corinthians 5:21).

It is a necessity for all professing believers to continually bear fruits worthy of repentance (Acts 3:19), and resting only in the merits of Christ (active and passive obedience) that can be found in Scripture alone, which can make us wise in salvation (2 Timothy 3:15). Bible-believing service members must engage their peers with gentleness, so perhaps God may grant them repentance (2 Timothy 2:25), and lovingly plead with LGBT advocates and supporters to “seek the LORD while He may be found and call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6), and pray that Christ will save them (1 Corinthians 6:11).

In the next article, I will discuss practical ways that service members can exercise their faith in a culture that is being manifested by LGBT proponents.

Pastor Sonny, I thank God that I call you my friend. I love and respect you for boldly speaking the truth regarding these fearful issues in our society today. God must look at our world and say ‘why?’ or does He just turn away because of His sorrow and disbelief?
As much as I miss you here in your home church, I am so thankful that you are available to our young men and women who are away from their homes and families, faced with loneliness and may even be struggling with their own sexuality. I know that times can be tough as you see the sin and craziness around you, but keep up your good work always knowing that there are many who daily lift you up in prayer.
May God continue to bless your service.

  • Excellent, Sonny. I look forward to reading your next one. Thank you for a clear statement concerning God’s Word on this matter. May the Lord grant mercy on those who rebelled against the Truth.
