Attacks on Military Memorials Continue

As has been noted many times, it has become increasingly popular for militant secularists to launch attacks against towns for having war memorials with religious imagery or even just the word “God.”

oldenburg1The most recent attack came in the tiny town of Oldenburg, Indiana, where Steve Kristoff — one of about 700 residents — objected to a cross and the word “God” on a local military memorial.

Councilman Denny Moeller said Kristoff, who lives in Oldenberg, issued a complaint with the town council.

“He’s saying that there are other people out there who are non-believers

that could see that and be offended by it, as well” Moeller said…

The town council has voted unanimously to keep the monument exactly as it is,” he said. “Whether that lands them in court remains to be seen.”

The article notes Kristoff appears to be a regular complainer about being exposed to public expressions remotely related to religion:

In 2014, he filed a lawsuit against Franklin County for its display of a Nativity scene on the courthouse lawn.

Generally speaking, Oldenburg is precisely the kind of town militant secularists like to attack, because it almost certainly lacks the funds to defend itself in court — which means it could be an easy “victory” for groups attempting to scrub any semblance of religious imagery from the American public square.

For now, it seems Kristoff is on his own, though how long that lasts remains to be seen.
