Top 10 Military Religious Freedom Stories for 2013

As has been the trend for the past few years, issues of religion and the military seem to have largely fallen from the visibility they once had.  This year, as religious liberty sites have compiled their “top tens” for the year, the focus has largely been on DOMA and the challenges to the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.  The left-leaning Baptist Joint Committee included only one military story, saying the “Pentagon debunks rumors of a policy change on religious expression” in reference to the springtime controversy over Michael “Mikey” Weinstein “consulting” with the Air Force (#9 on the list below).

As opposed to years past, religious expression in the military appears to be the primary focus of interest.  Stories 2, 7 and 8 are notable because they weren’t mass media events (#2 is pretty boring, actually), and two were reported exclusively on this site.

Still, as has been the case in years past, while this list may seem to indicate a focus on certain issues of religious controversy in the military, it is noteworthy these stories were not the most sought after information here.

For example, Fighter Pilot Speak remains one of the major draws to this site.  Of the many search terms that brought people to ChristianFighterPilot.com, only 2 in the top 10 dealt with issues of religion in the military.

The number one search term drawing visitors to ChristianFighterPilot.com?

“Mikey Weinstein.”
