Buddhist New Year Celebration on at Joint Base Lewis McChord

Update: The DoD article on the event can be seen here.

The Joint Base Lewis-McChord chapel will host the Buddhist New Year celebrations on 31 March 2012.

The event is being sponsored by Chaplain (Capt) Somya Malasri, one of the few Buddhist chaplains in the US military, and will feature

There are many activities including Sutra chanting, Dhamma talk, meditation, Bath the Buddha statue, delicious lunch, traditional dances from Thai, laos, Cambodian, Burmese, plus demonstration of Thai Boxing and more.

There are a fair variety of faiths in the US military.  While not everyone is represented by a chaplain, the military does an admirable job of protecting the right of each faith group to practice their faith.
