Obama Remembers US Military in Hanukkah Reception

Last week President Barack Obama hosted the annual White House Hanukkah reception with Vice President Biden.  The West Point Jewish Chapel Cadet Choir performed at the event.  Obama specifically mentioned the military in his statement:

Let’s think about those who are spending this holiday far away from home -– including members of our military who guard our freedom around the world.

Interestingly, the President rounded the date a bit roughly, and cited the “timeless story” of Hanukkah over “2,000 years.”  Hanukkah actually commemorates events from the 2nd Century BC; “2,000 years” is more often used to reference the birth of Christ.

Also noted at the Religion Clause.
