Tony Dungy, Uncompromising

The Baptist Press notes the recent controversy that erupted when Tony Dungy criticized New York Jets Coach Rex Ryan’s common use of profanity.

On a nationally broadcast radio show in mid-August, Dungy was asked by the host what he thought of Ryan’s use of several curse words in a constant pattern on a nationally televised reality show about the New York Jets.

Dungy told the host he didn’t approve of the bad language and would not have hired Ryan or anybody on his staff when he coached who used those words.

In Dungy’s defense, his statement was a direct response to a question, and his point was the topic of profanity itself, not the individual conduct of Rex Ryan.  The response from Ryan supporters was fairly strong.  Still, Dungy didn’t back down from his statements:

I was saying they asked me about my feelings about profanity, and I’m not a big fan of it, whether it comes from Rex Ryan or anyone else. I think especially as a leader, leading a football team or anything, I just don’t think it is necessary.

Dungy has been mentioned here previously for his unabashed example of living a Christian life in a field not often thought of as “Christian,” and for his life priorities.

Simple question: Is profanity consistent with the life of a military Christian?  Consider this.
