The US Army and “God willing” in Afghanistan

In discussing a military award, a US Army article makes note of what is sometimes believed to be a pejorative view of the Afghan army, or Islamic militaries in general.  LtCol James Boozell wrote “a national strategic vision while in Afghanistan,” at the request of the Afghan government:

He said the Afghan minister of defense asked for help in crafting a transformational goal for the future of the Afghan National Army, and Boozell rose to the task.

Interestingly, it was the Afghan minister of defense, not Boozell, who

wanted Afghan soldiers to…do away with an “Insha’Allah,” or “God-willing” attitude when tasks got too hard.

The implications of this attitude to the military profession were previously discussed.
