Soldiers Take Time for Bible in Training

According to a US Army news release, members of the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, found time to have a Bible study after training was finished for the day.

The session, led by Chaplain (Capt.) Patrick Vandurme…lasted for about an hour, giving Soldiers a chance to listen to verses from the Bible, pray, and talk to Chap. Vandurme as needed.

Officers and enlisted lauded the opportunity to exercise their faith and take a moment for rest and “spiritual” training, saying it was “uplifting and good for morale,” as well as reassuring soldiers

that they would always have somewhere to worship, whether in garrison, training, or deployed.

The Chaplain noted his call to serve all:

“Also, the specific religion a Soldier believes in doesn’t matter; I’m here for every Soldier, no matter what their religious preference is,” said the chaplain.

Though there are heavy demands–and restrictions due to military necessity–in training and combat, the US military makes a consistent and concerted effort to ensure the “spiritual welfare” of its troops, which includes ensuring their freedom free exercise.  Its Chaplains are the core supporting that pillar of wellness.
